Profile
Pafos is a coastal municipality situated in the south-western part of Cyprus (Pafos district). It has a long history dating back to the 12th century B.C. Roman capital of Cyprus, Pafos was famous throughout antiquity, for two main reasons: its association with the cult of Aphrodite and the spread of Christianity. In fact, such was the role of Pafos and such is the importance of its ancient remains, that, in 1981, the whole sites of Palai-Paphos and Nea Pafos, were put on the World Cultural Heritage List of UNESCO. The town has a population of 26,530 and its economy is mainly based on the tourism sector. Pafos has a long experience in working on European projects mainly as a partner. Our Municipality is well known for its Opera Festival (http://www.pafc.com.cy/). We are interested in participating in projects on the following themes: infrastructure, technology, internet, social issues and others. Pafos is a candidate city for the 2017 Cultural Capital of Europe.
