Famagusta is one of the nine Municipalities of Cyprus that are under Turkish occupation since 1974. Famagusta has a very long history dating back to the 12th century. Before the Turkish invasion, Famagusta was the third largest town in Cyprus, had the biggest port and it was the most important tourist destination. Now it has been turned into a ghost city, deprived of its inhabitants. Famagusta is member to the Mayors for Peace (http://www.mayorsforpeace.org/) and E.G.T.C Amphictyony (www.amphictyony.gr) networks.
