Ayios Athanasios is an urban municipality situated in the southern part of Cyprus (Limassol district). It was founded in 1986. The municipality became a refugee settlement after 1974 and as a result the population doubled since then. Now, the town has a population of 13,500 and its economy is mainly based on industry. Ayios Athanasios has a long experience in working on European projects, mainly in the areas of culture, research and environment (as a partner). Our municipality is well known for the church of Saint Mamas and its Cultural Center, which is a monument over 100 years old. Ayios Athanasios participates in the Covenant of Mayors (www.eumayors.eu), in Med Cities network (www.medcities.org), in Interreg and the Nature Path. The municipality is interested in new partnerships as well as in projects on the following themes: culture, research, e-government and environment.
