Profile
Athienou is a rural municipality situated in the central part of Cyprus (Larnaka district). The largest part of the territory of Athienou (65%) is under Turkish occupation since 1974. Athienou has a long history dating back to the 3rd century B.C., but the Municipality itself was founded in 1926. The town has a population of 6000 and its economy is mainly based on the Commerce and Agriculture sectors. Athienou has a long experience, working on European projects, mainly in the areas of culture, traditional architecture, social affairs and the Urbact programme. Our Municipality is well known for its traditional bread and cheese production. We are interested in new partnerships for the participation in projects in the fields of culture (traditional architecture) and the environment.
